Citywide Meeting at Keystone Church, first Thursday of each month, 7-9

Events

Hello All Community Risers!

Please join us NEXT Thursday, 8/10, at Keystone Congregational Church, 5019 Keystone Place N., for our next Citywide Meeting:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Keystone+Congregational+Church/@47.665586,-122.3312413,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x242c28d4afc957e9!8m2!3d47.665586!4d-122.3312413 This is our new venue--as of last month--and we are very happy with its acoustics and welcoming atmosphere (it's also cool on a hot day...).

At this meeting, we are pleased to welcome Rabbi Ted Falcon, who will share a talk with us: "What Keeps Us From Truly Meeting the Other?" He describes this as a brief exploration of how we ourselves inhibit the very conversations we desire, and why it's not so easy. Following Rabbi Ted's talk and Q & A, we will move into small groups to discuss how this might work in our own lives. We have some other things planned as well, and hope that you will be part of our monthly community gathering!

Until then, we are wishing you well, in community,

The Communities Rising! Core Committee

  • Google Calendar ICS

At this month's meeting, Imam Jamal Rahman will give a seed talk, "White Privilege: How do we diminish prejudice, denial, and fear?"  Following Jamal's talk, we will discuss in small groups his thoughts about how white privilege comes into play in our daily interactions, and how we might mindfully work with that in our efforts to promote peace, unity, and understanding in our community and greater world.

West Coast Immigrant Solidarity Rally

August 15th is the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) application anniversary. Thousands across the country will take to the streets to protect DACA, TPS (Temporary Protected Status), and other local priorities for our immigrant communities. With recent attacks by the Administration, Texas Attorney General Paxton, and U.S. General Kelly more than 800,000 DACA recipients and 350,000 TPS immigrants will face threats of deportations and lose their ability to live freely.

Join Washington Dream Coalition, Oregon DACA Coalition, and San Diego Dream Team as we rally to defend these programs and ensure all undocumented youth, families, and workers live free from the fear of deportation.

The march will begin at Sturgus Park: 904 Sturgus Ave. S Seattle, WA 98144
The rally will be held at Hing Hay Park: 423 Maynard Ave S. Seattle, WA 98104

If your organization would like to sponsor or endorse this event, please complete this google form: https://goo.gl/forms/SAZkU1HT26Db3E6U2

Also, join us on Monday August 14th for a Poster Making Party from 6-8 PM. Come and build community as we prepare for our rally the next day!

This is not the first time we have faced difficulties, we have fought before, and we have won. We will win again!
